The Lovely Bay and Harissa :

18 km north of Beirut, is situated on one of Lebanon's loveliest bays. Formerly a small town, since the 1970's it has grown into a densely built-up area of high-rise buildings, hotels, large resort complexes and the elegant Casino du Liban. Its seaside location, excellent restaurants, night spots and shops attract visitors from all over.
A very modern and very steep cable car known as the "Téléférique" , makes it possible to reach the peak of the hill that dominates Jounieh in just a few minutes. Here stands the gigantic statue of Our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa that is visible from any point on the coast. Harissa is an important Lebanese pilgrimage site located at 650 meters altitude from the coast and 20 km distance from Beirut the capital city. It attracts both pilgrims and tourists who want to enjoy views of Jounieh. The statue was made in France and brought to Harissa in the late nineteenth century. Weighing about 13 tons, the white figure extends its open arms towards the city and the Maronite cathedral below.
The Casino Du Liban is located in Maameltein and is 22 km north of Beirut. With an area of about 34,000 square meters, the casino has around 400 slot machines and 60 gaming tables. It has a showroom, night club, theater, banquet facility and five restaurants. The casino was first opened in 1959. It closed in 1989 and reopened in 1996 after a $50 million reconstruction and refurbishment project.
Above Jounieh, and on the way to Harissa, a small hill named "Bkerki" overlooking the Jounieh bay, is the seat of the Patriarch of the Maronite Catholic Church. Its inhabitants are predominantly Maronite and it's thus known to be the largest Maronite city in the world.
